Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education, a specialized accrediting agency recognized by the Council of Recognition of Post Secondary Accreditation and the U.S. Office of Education. Commonwealth Institute is also recognized by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards of the U.S., Inc., an organization composed of the various state(s) funeral service licensing agencies.

Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service is authorized to grant the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Funeral Service by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service is approved and regulated by the Texas Workforce Commission, Proprietary Schools and Veterans Education Department, Austin, Texas.

Commonwealth Institute is open weekdays from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Lecture classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 to 8:50 A.M., 9:00 to 9:50, 10:00 to 10:50, 11:00 to 11:50, and noon to 12:50 P.M. Laboratory sessions for classes are scheduled from 1:00 to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00 AM. to 4:30 P.M. on Friday. The dates and times of laboratory sessions are scheduled at the beginning of each quarter.
